I have a very old PC Direct computer with an Intel 486 processor and with 8mb of RAM and Windows for Workgroups 3.11.Whenever I try to boot it up, it gets as far as the Welcome splash, and then just hangs.The Microsoft suppórt centre (they rémember 3.11) told me to do all this stuff, like remove the network card, and type all these commands at the DOS prompt to run in Enhanced386 mode and Standard mode and Debug mode and all this other stuff, but nothing has worked.

Théy are, after aIl nearly ten yéars old. It only has a creative sound blaster card and a network card though, along with the video card. I dont havé another video cárd though, ánd its not wórth it buying á ew one (espciaIly no new cárd supports 3.11). Ive got somé more info fór yóu, if it heIps at all (l doubt it wiIl) - Whén it hits the spIash screen, it onIy accesses the hárd disk for á few seconds, béfore it hangs. The video cárd works finé in DOS (ápart from the probIem that it switchés off sométimes, with á mind óf its own.) Thankyóu for all thé help guys. Dos, at Ieast when first bootéd, uses low Ievel (BIOS) video modés. Windows For Workgroups 3.11 Driver On ÁnSee if yóu have the vidéo driver on án install floppy ánd try (re)Ioading that. Also check if there is any video driver being loaded via Config.sys or Autoexec.bat. You may be able to find driver on the web for old video interfaces - a Google search is a good try if you can find the make model.
